Old Irish Farmhouse Testimonials
The things they say about us!
We are a family of two adults and three children. We contacted Trudy through her website at short notice for a last minute summer break before the kids went back to school. Trudy was very accommodating and responsive. We had a fantastic time there. There house itself is a destination being decorated in the style of its original era whilst still having the modern comforts we are accustomed to. The kids really enjoyed staying in an old farmhouse environment and playing the many board games and reading the books Trudy has left in each room. This house is a fantastic base to explore the beautiful wider area and I would highly recommend it!
Trudy's 1880's farmhouse has been beautifully restored with care and is in a peaceful countryside location surrounded by other farmsteads and dramatic hills and forests. The house is very comfortable and thoughtfully furnished with period items and modern kit such as microwave, toaster, kettle. We enjoyed sitting outside in mornings and lunchtime on the benches in the yard and picnic table in the apple orchard. Trudy kindly let us use a lockable shed to store our bikes overnight and there is a lovely walk on a lane surrounding the property for dogs and nature lovers. The Coollaney Mountain Bike trails are only a short drive away (18 mins) and nearby Ballysadare (15 mins) offers supermarket and takeaway food conveniences and some bars and restaurants. The farmhouse is well placed to explore the Mayo/ Sligo coastline with top surf spots of Easkey (20 mins), Strandhill (30 mins) and Bundoran (1hr) all within reach. My family greatly enjoyed our stay and Trudy's warm hospitality
Our stay was wonderful in Trudy's gorgeous house - everything there was pretty and chosen with care and love! The house was also extremely clean despite of its big surface, and very well equipped. And the contact with Trudy. as well as all the rest, was ensured with kindness and elegance. Thank you for all of this, we'll sure come back soon !!
We had a wonderful stay at Trudy's. A beautifully renovated house and an obliging and very helpful host. I couldn't recommend it enough.
[Owner Response: I am so pleased that Aonghus chose Carrowcullen for his special family reunion and celebration! I look forward to their return!]
We LOVED our stay at the Farmhouse! It felt as though we stepped back in time! This place is an absolute gem. You can see that Trudy had dedicated such care and attention to detail for the restoration of the property, the antiques and authentic old style decor which really added to our experience. Our 7 year old particularly loved watching the wildlife all around, the birds nesting in the barn and the sheep in the field, she loved meeting Heather and we visited Dunmoran strand near by, which was beautiful for swimming. This was a truly magical and unique stay. Trudy was a lovely host, warm and friendly. We will be recommending to EVERYONE and also already looking forward to the day we visit again! Thankyou Trudy!
Beautiful old farmhouse brought back to its former glory. A step back in time. Trudy was very helpful and flexible with our checkout.
We really enjoyed our time at Trudy’s old Irish farmhouse. This is more than a stay, it’s an experience. We explored the surrounding countryside during the days and enjoyed the unique ambiance and history of the house in the evenings. Trudy was very
welcoming and had detailed instructions laid out throughout the house. Would definitely recommend this stay to anyone looking for a unique and authentic Irish country experience.

We stayed two nights in Trudy’s gorgeous house in Carrowcullen in Feb 25. The house is beautifully restored with obvious care and attention to detail, and furnished with antiques to match the era of the building. Its a beautiful remote location, just a couple of miles from the amazing Sligo coastline. The house is very comfortable and cozy, with modern kitchen appliances discreetly located. We really enjoyed our stay, Trudy couldn’t have been more helpful! Highly recommended!!
I spent three nights last year in July in the Old Irish Farmhouse, beautifully renovated by my cousin. I came with two friends of mine and we had such a nice stay exploring the wonderful
countryside with it's small cosy villages. Among other things we visited a Gin and Whisky distillery situated not far from Carrowcullen and of course Sligo. If you want to be transferred back in history this is the place you should come to. I will come back - that's for sure.

Thank you for a wonderful stay at the Old Irish Farmhouse! It was lovely to be acommodated at the carefully restored home. We really enjoyed the beautiful scenery and visiting cute little towns, traditional Irish music, ancient remains and good food at a nearby seaside restaurant.
A hidden, pet-friendly gem of peace and tranquillity set back 1-2 centuries in time. Beautifully restored old farmhouse in secluded green surroundings. Make the hike onto the hill, down towards the ocean and back via small farm roads; 3 hrs well spent!
The farmhouse was a beautiful and unique place to spend a
couple of days. Trudy was a kind and helpful host, and she clearly put a lot of love into making this special home.It was so much fun to step into the past - even down to the original china that used to be in the home! We loved the experience.

Lovely, peaceful stay at Trudy's. The house is full of lots authentic items and art that bring you back in time! We had a 6 month old infant with us and worked well. Shout out to Heather the dog also! 🐾 We got pizza in Bella & Brava in Coolaney one of the nights, was delicious fyi. And the river walk in Coolaney is lovely also!
We spent 3 days in this old Irish Farmhouse. Trudy met us on
arrival and took us through the history of the home. A step back in time for sure as soon as we went through the front door. Amazing character recreated by Trudy with authentic furnishings. Everything in the home you could ask for, from fine bone china tea cups, claret jugs, free standing bathtub, and many, many more bits and pieces which we all made use of. Would highly
recommend this beautiful home as a base in Sligo.

Serendipity. If one word was to sum up this cottage and our
blissful week away, it would have to be Serendipity. I and my wife were looking for the ideal cottage to get away from 2020,
somewhere that us, our two kids and ageing dog could breathe, be together and relax away from all of the daily stress we have with news, social media and daily cacophony of life in 2020. To maximise our time and locate the right place we decided to search separately at the same time, passing the odd 'possible' place back and forth to each other, just to have a list of 'backups'. Serendipity then came in to play, we both saw Trudy's cottage at the same time, both of us knew we had won the
unspoken competition of finding the right holiday cottage. Both gloating as we sent each other the same cottage at the same time, it was then we knew it was meant to be. The cottage is
located down a private gated lane, with only Trudy the owner her dog Heather and her hen's (Heathers hens) as neighbours. During our week I think I only heard one tractor the whole time we were there. The cottage is an old stone building, each room is small and unchanged from what it would have looked like the day it was built. We loved all of the features of the house, from the stone ground floor, the period details and furniture. We also loved the lack of clocks, we made our own time.e The cottage has all of the modern conveniences you need for cooking, but has none that you need to escape. We welcomed the lack of a TV as there were lots of board games and books to entertain us. A stunning beach is a short drive away, the cottage is located at the base of the Ox Mountains so has numerous walks from the front door. Sligo and Benbulben are less than an hour away. For someone who loves exploring the Irish countryside, you can't ask for a
better location. Trudy is a lovely hostess, has excellent local knowledge and is an advocate for heritage and Irish history. This cottage is one of a kind and takes away all of the noise from modern life, the best way to relax and get away from it all.

Nice place to stay
We had good experience in staying in the property. It is a really very nice and attractive place as it is 18th centuries property. The host is very friendly and helpful. Good location and easy to find the place

Carrowcullen is a stay like no other. Find yourself transported back to another time in the pantheon of Irish history. Our host Trudy has succeeded magnificently in presenting the aspects of farmhouse life which have been long since forgotten. Her
passion for authenticity knows no bounds and is matched only by her knowledge and drive for heritage. Each room has been sympathetically restored to its historical full, with genuine
artifacts and period furnishings. This is a living museum which truly excites! We experienced the verve of country life amongst the quiet rolling hills and forestry of our surroundings. Our regard could not run higher. An-mhaith Trudy, we will return!! Book your stay and support a genuine historical contingency.
