Carrowcullen is available for holiday rental for a minimum of two to a maximum of twenty eight days. You may check availability and book directly on our site here

Longer term lettings are also available by arrangement. Please email info@oldirishfarmhouse.com to make an initial enquiry.

Bookings may be cancelled up to 30 days prior to planned arrival date without penalty. Any cancellations within 30 days of the planned arrival date are non refundable.

Terms and Conditions

For the purposes of the Terms and Conditions, the Old Irish Farmhouse is property owned by Dr G. M. Prescott, Carrowcullen, near Skreen, Co Sligo Republic of Ireland F91 EVK6; reference to the ‘owner’ in these terms and conditions therefore refers to Dr G M Prescott.

 

Booking The Old Irish Farmhouse Carrowcullen

  1. AGREEMENT

1.1  These terms and conditions form the basis of the agreement between you and the owner for holiday rental of Carrowcullen together with conditions set out in here.

1.2 You must be over 18 years of age to make a booking and accept full responsibility for all payments due and for the consequences of any actions of all persons who will use the Property during your holiday. Payment by Paypal means you are deemed to have read all the Booking Conditions and agreed to be bound by them.

  1. BOOKING
    • Confirmation of your booking payment by Paypal and its notification of payment to owner means that an agreement exists between us on these terms and conditions.
    • All prices quoted on our website include all charges for water, gas, electricity and oil.
    • Special offers/coupons are only valid if quoted at time of booking and cannot be combined nor back-dated to existing bookings.
    • Whilst information concerning the owner’s property is correct at the time of publishing, the owner reserves the right to amend prices, services, or other particulars contained in in the published website at any time before the owner enters into a contract with you.
  2. The owner’s RIGHT to REFUSE/TERMINATE a BOOKING
    • The owner reserves the right to refuse any booking.
    • The owner and the owner’s authorized representative reserves the right to terminate this Agreement and ask you and your guests to leave immediately if this is deemed necessary by the owner or her authorized representative as a result of your behavior, member of your party or that of your pre-authorised visitors or any other material breach by you of the terms and conditions of this Agreement. This property, which includes a working farm (and the adjoining property, Holy Hill Hermitage) are dedicated to peace and tranquility and engagement with the natural surroundings; in addition, it is dedicated as well to the well-being of the livestock on the lands and the animals and birds and other living things which naturally inhabit the property and must be respected and not disturbed.
  3. TENANCY
    • This agreement is for the purposes of a holiday rental only and does not create the relationship of Landlord and Tenant between you and the owner. You will not be entitled to a tenancy or any other form of statutory security of tenure as a result of this Agreement.
  4. DESCRIPTION and FACILITIES
    • The owner will endeavor to inform at the time of booking of any changes to the website description of the Property.
    • The owner does not accept any liability for any works or activity of any sort occurring on its premises/property, or adjoining or neighbouring lands to the property.
  5. Change of Booking
    • Changes cannot be accepted less than 29 days before the start date of the holiday.
    • If prior to 30 days, a change which results in a reduction in the length of the holiday, you will receive a refund through the booking site process.
    • If prior to 30 days, a change which results in an increased holiday cost must be booked again through the website and payment then made immediately via PayPal to secure the change.
  6. CANCELLATION: cancellation up to 30 days prior to your booked stay, can be refunded through the booking site process; cancellation within 29 days of the rental period is subject to forfeiture of the booking costs.
    • The owner reserves the right to cancel the booking in the event of circumstances beyond the reasonable control of the owner or if in the reasonable opinion of the owner it is necessary to undertake essential works at the recently renovated but historic Property. In these unlikely circumstances, the owner will endeavor to offer alternative holiday booking; if no such alternative holiday is agreed between us, then the owner will refund in full all money received for the booking, and the owner will not otherwise be liable for any loss incurred by you as a result of the cancellation.
  7. DURING YOUR STAY: Arrivals and Departures
    • The holiday rental period begins at 4:00pm on the first day of your booked stay and ends at 10:00am on the day of the departure. If your stay extends beyond this period you may be subject to a charge for the additional days.
    • Please provide approximate arrival time to best enable your greeting and introduction to the property.
    • If your arrival will be delayed beyond 8pm on your start date of your rental period you must contact the owner/owner’s representative, or the booking may be treated as having been cancelled by you.
  8. OCCUPATION OF THE PROPERTY
    • You must not use the Property for any purpose other than that of a holiday. Functions, celebrations, ceremonies and parties are not permitted, nor is any music/noise audible outside the immediate farmhouse permitted.
    • The number of people staying in the Property must not exceed the maximum number stated in the website and agreed in writing at time of booking. Use of tents or sleeping in motor vehicles within or adjacent to the Property is not permitted.
    • The gardens and shed adjacent to the house are shared with the residents and other guests.
    • You must not use the Property for any activity or in such a way as to cause nuisance or annoyance to the owner, visitors to the property, farmers and animals on the property or using the public right of way lane, walkers using the public right of way in the lane running through the property, or neighbouring properties.
    • All gates on the property upon entrance and exit must be closed, regardless of whether they are found open.
    • The Countryside code must be obeyed within the property and guests are advised to follow this code elsewhere (including on the forestry lane, adjoining the property): for your information: this code is summarized on http://irishschoolso.blogspot.com/p/countryside-code.html .
    • Always remember, farmland is a working environment and all persons who enter do so at their own risk. Under the 1995 Occupiers’ Liability Act, under Irish law, there is an obligation on entrants to take all necessary steps to ensure their own safety.
    • You and your guests must comply with any reasonable regulations relating to the Property, or the site within which the Property is situated, which will be communicated to you on your arrival at the Property.
    • Carrowcullen adheres to minimizing unsustainable impact on the environment; facilities for separating waste for recycling are provided. Should this strict recycling policy (also required by the County) not be respected, additional charges will apply, which will be communicated to you in writing within seven days of the end of your holiday let, and will be payable by you upon receipt of this notification via Paypal.
    • Carrowcullen has a septic tank. ONLY the toilet tissue provided (which is a relatively degradable type) is to be flushed; ALL other items are to be placed in the bins provided. Should this obligation not be followed, you may be liable, upon written notification, for remedial plumbing costs, to be paid via Paypal.
  9. OUR OBLIGATIONS
    • Should any of the published facilities within our property change or become unavailable after we enter into a contract with you we shall notify you in writing immediately.
    • Where a significant change exists, we will always endeavor to advise you prior to your arrival.
  10. YOUR OBLIGATIONS
    • You agree to keep the Property and its contents in the same condition and repair as on your arrival at the Property and to pay to the owner upon written demand any costs incurred in making good any loss or damage to the Property or its contents caused by your action or omission or that of any guest or animal accompanying you.
    • You will be provided with an in-property information folder that contains important information about your stay with us. Please ensure that you and your party read it carefully on arrival. You must also ensure that you and your party familiarise yourselves with the layout of the accommodation and the location of the fire exits.
    • No pet is permitted at the Property, without specific written consent and subject to being kept under control at all times; additional charges, where explicit permission is given by the owner, of £50 apply; all waste must be removed promptly on an ongoing basis from the property, subject to an additional cleaning fee (£50) after your stay ends if these conditions have not been met, payable via Paypal. The owner will consider special permission in regards to assist dogs, subject to stated fees. Under no conditions are animals to go beyond the ground floor or be allowed on furniture. No pets are to be left unattended at the property. No pets are allowed within the fenced and gated livestock pastures.
    • Given the historical nature of the property and its contents and necessity for ongoing care, checks, repairs and humidity control, the owner reserves the right to enter the Property during the holiday; the owner or owner’s authorized representative will endeavor to give reasonable notice of such a visit except in an emergency when immediate access must be allowed.
    • You must ensure that the Property is left in a clean and tidy condition at the end of your holiday as you found it. The owner reserves the right to charge a fee up to £500 for any additional cleaning she considers necessary following your holiday at the Property . In the event that the owner decides to charge you for additional cleaning she will inform you in writing via PayPal invoice detailing the additional cleaning required within seven working days of the end of your stay; such charges are liable for immediate payment upon receipt of the written notification and Paypal invoice.
    • Should breakage occur, please do inform the owner/owner’s representative. The owner reserves the right to charge for replacement like for like and to inform you of such charges incurred in writing via Paypal invoice within seven working days of the end of your stay.
    • At all times, vehicles should be parked in the area between the two sheds on the public right of way lane, and should not at any time: (1) block the lane; (2) be driven into the front garden area of the property; or (3) block gates to the working farm, sheds or paddock. This is a working farm with a public access lane to working farms where the welfare of the livestock must be checked repeatedly within a 24 hour timescale.
    • Two woodburning stoves are located on the ground floor; tools to remove and contain ash are provided; appropriate fuels are turf, peat, wood and coal. At no time should the stoves be left burning unattended.
    • Carrowcullen is strictly a no-smoking (including e cigarettes) property; this includes the interior as well as the any of the grounds of the property.
    • The property is not to be used for illegal or commercial purposes; no breaches of the peace or law by you or your party are to occur.
    • The property, or any part thereof, is not to be sub-let, or otherwise to allow anyone to stay in it who has not been previously accepted by the owner as a member of your party.
    • You cannot arrange visitors to the property without advance consent of the owner.
    • If you or any member of your party or pre-arranged visitors have breached the terms and conditions and are asked to leave the property, you must do so immediately. The owner is not responsible for any costs or expenses you have to pay due to not staying at the property. You will not receive a refund and it will be treated as a cancellation.
    • If you have any allergies to animals, the property may not be suitable for your stay; the property is a working farm with a variety of animals.
    • The property has been inventoried; you will be asked to sign an inventory list on arrival.
    • If keys to the property are lost, you must notify the owner immediately and inform under what circumstances they were lost; you will be liable for the cost of their replacement and/or change of locks, if necessary according to the circumstances of the losing, to the property, the invoice payable via Paypal.
    • The owner can refuse to hand over keys to the property if the unreasonable behaviour of anyone in your party is likely to cause offence to other guests, members of staff or neighbours, or if the owner has reasonable cause to believe you or any member of your party will cause damage or loss to the property, its services or facilities. If this happens, the contract between you and the owner will end upon your being notified at that time of such and you will not receive any refund.
  11. SITE ACTIVITY
    • Carrowcullen is a working farm and requires regular maintenance of its acreage; efforts will be made to minimize disturbance during your stay. The public right of way lane also leads to another working farm, not owned by the proprietor.
    • The owner cannot be held responsible for noise or disturbance which comes from beyond the boundaries of the property or which is beyond the owner’s control.
    • The shed adjoining the house is a shared resource as are the grounds immediately in front and adjoining the house.
    • A substantial quantity of logs is stored at the back of the shed adjoining the property; climbing on the logs is strictly prohibited.
    • The Carrowcullen lane is a public access lane used by locals and visitors to the area for walking; it leads to forestry owned lane, which is not part of the Carrowcullen; there has been a traditional walkers’ passage through it, but the owner does not have any control over such access or terms relating to.
    • No open fires are to be lit on the grounds of the property. Visitors are advised to consult forestry and countryside regulations when outside the property.
  12. COMPLAINT
    • If you have any cause for complaint during your holiday at the Property, notify the owner or her authorized representative who will make all reasonable efforts to assist and resolve the issue. The owner will not normally make any refund or recompense in respect of a complaint made after departure if the complaint was not made known to the owner or authorized representative during the holiday rental period.
  13. LOST PROPERTY and HISTORIC HOUSE conditions
    • The owner shall not be responsible for loss or damage to any of your belongings or for any injuries sustained by you or any of your guests unless caused by the negligence or default of the owner.
    • Carrowcullen is a historic property. It has uneven and narrow steps and low door thresholds, statutory-sized hearth stones, and uneven flooring. At all times, you should exercise caution when moving through the property.
  14. DATA PROTECTION: compliance with EU General Data Protection Regulation (in force: UK and Ireland 2018)

Your data will be handled in accordance with the principles of the GDPR:

  • Processed lawfully, fairly and transparently.
  • Collected only for specific legitimate purposes.
  • Adequate, relevant and limited to what is necessary.
  • Accurate and, where necessary, kept up to date.
  • Stored only as long as is necessary.
  • Ensure appropriate security.
  • Consent must be freely given, specific, informed and unambiguous.
  • A request for consent must be intelligible and in clear, plain language.
  • Silence, pre-ticked boxes and inactivity will no longer suffice as consent.
  • Consent can be withdrawn at any time.
  1. FORCE MAJEURE
    • We shall neither be in breach of these terms and conditions nor liable for delay in performing or failure to perform any of our obligations under these terms and conditions in such delay or failure result from events, circumstances or causes beyond its reasonable control.
    • An event outside our reasonable control means any act or event that is beyond our reasonable control, including without limitation fire, explosion, storm, flood, earthquake, subsidence, epidemic or other nature disaster, strikes or industrial action by third parties, terrorist attack or threat of terrorist attack, war or threat or war, civil commotion, riot, invasion, or failure of public or private telecommunications.
    • Carrowcullen is in a remote rural location, and is therefore subject to the weather conditions of the Wild Atlantic Way; the very localized mountainous environment can affect supply of electricity and, to a lesser extent, water; weather and atmospheric conditions also affect internet reception. The owner will not be held responsible for failure of public/private supply of utilities, nor for internet or other telecommunications reception.
  2. INSURANCE
    • It is a condition of your contract with the owner that you and all members of your party have comprehensive travel insurance cover and that it is adequate for your needs. Your policy of insurance should provide cover for personal injury, death, medical and repatriation costs in the countries which you intend to visit, together with cover for loss of baggage and valuables, personal liability, delay, cancellation, curtailment, missed departure and legal expenses. If you suffer from a disability or medical condition you should disclose this to insurers.
  3. GOVERNING LAW

18.1 These terms and conditions and any dispute or claim (including non-contractual disputes or claims) arising out of or in connection or its subject matter or formation shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the law of the Republic of Ireland.
